QVS celebrates its first 100 years in 2008. Plans to mark the Centenary include the building of an auditorium, suitable for assembly, musical and theatrical performances.
This will be the visible symbol of the gratitude of the school's supporters for the sacrifices of Service men and woman during the past hundred years, just as the foundation of the School was a tribute to the Soldiers and Sailors killed in the South African wars.
The school continues to fill the role for which it was founded, providing high quality education in a stable environment for the sons and daughters of members of all three services. During the school holidays it has become a centre for a number of organisations which provide courses for young people. In particular the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland have been regular users of the school facilities. At present NYOS are seeking suitable rehearsal accommodation which includes a hall with acoustics comparable with those in the international concert halls in which they perform. The centenary auditorium will also be made available to other groups and to the local community for public performances and conferences.
The target for the appeal is £2.5million.
